Networked Expertise

Baiji.org Foundation is committed to networking the expertise of NGO's, GO's and leading corporations with key Chinese administrative officials, specialists and research institutes - in order to build long term partnerships that will help secure a future for the Baiji river dolphin, Yangtze finless porpoise and their freshwater environment.

baiji.org Partnerships: Working towards a sustainable future for China's freshwater resources.

baiji.org has been given the mandate to carry out this work and will coordinate all international resources and future conservation efforts through its innovative steering platform - the International Baiji Foundation Conservation Committee.  We are inviting all interested NGO's, GO's, corporations and individual cetacean and freshwater specialists to get involved.
For this reason, the baiji.org foundation seeks to transcend the boundaries of the competitive fundraising market by cooperating with other organizations – hand in hand with the Chinese authorities and the business community.

This approach is exemplified by Baiji.org’s current partnerships with the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese officials, NGOs and other research institutions. Only by collaborating with all stakeholders, including international corporations with an interest in sustainability leadership (and in particular the future management of fresh water and other natural resources in China), can we enable our friends and partners in China to implement their ideas and strategies for conserving the Baiji, the Yangtze finless porpoise, and Yangtze freshwater biodiversity in general.

Following the success of the international 'Workshop on the Conservation of China's Baiji and Yangtze Finless Porpoise 2004': baiji.org is spearheading the development of the International Baiji Conservation Committee - a steering platform that will coordinate new NGO partners, provide expert scientific review of future baiji conservation initiatives and ensure optimal project-partnering.

The executive committee will be comprised of the following key Chinese officials, scientists and international specialists: Chen Zheng Guo (Changjiang Fisheries Resource Management Committee, Ministry of Agriculture), Professor Wang Ding (Wuhan, Institute of Hydrobiology), Professor Zhou Kai Ya (Nanjing Normal University), Dr Randall Reeves (IUCN/SSC Cetacean Specialist Group) and Mr August Pfluger (baiji.org Foundation).
